Wow! I can’t believe so much time has gone by since my last post. You have my profound apologies. I just got caught up in moving to Portland, surviving the loss of my beloved laptop, and creating a whole new website!

Talk about a lack of attention to intention.

What exactly is that three-word phrase and what does it mean?

carrot_and_the_stickAs I mentioned in my last post, the phrase, “Attention To Intention” popped into my consciousness one night when waking up from a dream. What it means to me is that you need to always keep your intention clearly in your mind. I know the idea is a little insulting, but the process involved is rather like the old carrot on the stick. Keep the carrot (intention) always before you and you’ll always be moving forward towards your goal. Keeping it present is the most important aspect of this; that and having a clear goal in the first place.

Once you get your sights set on the prize, it’s a lot easier to not be diverted by all the Oughta-Pilots(tm) that show up as soon as you’ve identified it.

woman with rosesYou can’t believe how wonderful it feels when everyone around you is giving you advice and yet you don’t lose sight of what you’re doing and why and you can take their advice, but remember that advice is worth what you pay for it. By that I mean, you don’t have to take it as gospel, consider it if it sounds valid, but remember it may not be any truer than anything else you’ve heard.

WE Are In Charge Of Our Own Choices

I say there are only a few truths: Water is wet, rocks are hard and perhaps there’s a few more out there, but you get the idea. You do NOT have to do what your parents/teachers/spouses/guru-of-the-days  say once you’ve chosen to live a life of your own making. They’re trying to do the same thing you are – find happiness and satisfaction. Poor folks who don’t know what you do – that we’re all in charge of our own choices.

So, to summarize, choose your goal(s), and don’t lose sight of it.  Keep it in front of you somehow – with a vision board, bulletin board, screensaver, anything that works for you. Filter all advice through your own belief system, disconnect the oughta-pilots(tm) and fly, baby, fly!

My poor little (?) doggie, Hobo, had fleas.  We’re in the final stages of erradication (I hope).  But as I was spraying under and over his bed in our room once again, it occurred to me that fleas are very much like Oughta-Pilots(TM) in that just when you think you have them controlled and gone, one or two will pop back up and bite you!

hobo1I’d wash him and his bedding, air out the rattan basket, vacuum and spray the rug under the basket and any place he’d been laying and he’d get into his basket, ready for a nap (he does that very well, by the way) and just when he was relaxed and drowsing off, he’d suddenly jump up and out of the basket and start scratching and biting at himself. Poor thing.

He caught fleas last Thanksgiving when we visited my daughter and stayed at the Travelodge near the Portland Airport (don’t ever stay there with a pet). i-hate-winterHe’s one of those dogs allergic to fleabites so we almost lost him. But the battle sure has made me think.

How many times have we thought that we’d handled an issue, a problem, a test or a challenge and thought we were finished with it? So we relax and go about our merry way until it shows back up and smacks us in the face once again?

I woke up with a start the other evening, with three little words going around and around in my brain -

ATTENTION TO INTENTION

I’d be really interested to hear what those three words mean to you.  Next post, I’ll discuss what they mean to me.

I’m having so much fun with the first DYOP teleseries – I’m going to do it again! Starts May 12 and I’ll be offering an early bird special once again to sign up.

Watch this space for updates.

What’s in the Teleseries?

I have separated the series into 5 1-hour telecalls to be followed with exercises and coaching.

  • Week 1 – DYOP – the big picture
    • This is where we’ll talk about what Oughta-Pilots are, how they work, and why you’d want to disconnect them.
  • Week 2 – Watch Your Mouth Your Subconscious Is Listening
    • We will look at how we talk ourselves into and out of situations, decisions and how we all have a personal DJ who plays our old tapes for us to listen to and believe in, identify areas where we sabotage ourselves and create mechanisms to dispel it.
  • Week 3 – The Joys of Failure
    • We’ll examine how we define failure, what power it has over us and how our fears of repetition stop us cold in our quest for our dreams.
  • Week 4 – Recycled Virgins
    • Ever want a do-over? Wouldn’t it be wonderful to be able to start all over again? What if you didn’t have a firm idea on what awaited you? What if you took on an opportunity with no preconceived notions of what could go wrong? We’ll look at where we set ourselves up because of something that happened before and might happen again and we’ll create a strategy for recognizing when this happens again.
  • Week 5 – Pulling It All Together
    • What have we accomplished, where do we go from here, and how do we keep those Oughta-Pilots(TM) disconnected?

Are you in a transition stage?

Are you’re wondering if you’re pursuing the right career?

Have you just been laid off?

Are you relocating to new territory?

Are your children just off to college? Their first job?

If there’s any uncertainty in your life at all, my new telecourse will help you put it all in perspective. Let me ask you this:

Are you doing what you were born to do or what you’ve been told to do?

Each one of us is born with special gifts, strengths we can count on and and skills that keep surfacing again and again in what we enjoy doing. There is a pattern that evolves through a person’s lifetime that blatantly shows the gifts, strengths and skills to all who know how to read it. What if you could discover that pattern yourself and learn to do the things that would bring you joy and fulfillment again and again, and be able to avoid those situations that do not.

What if you could disconnect from all the things others have told you you “oughta” do and follow your own instincts based on the information you have from knowing your own patterns?

You may not know this about me, but I woke up a month before my 45th birthday suddenly without an identity. My mother had just passed away a few days before and the shock had finally ebbed. My own daughter was having a hard time dealing with her grandmother’s demise and had taken off to find her own peace, and the love of my life decided I wasn’t the love of his, so there I was, alone.

I was suddenly no one’s daughter, no one’s mother, unemployed, homeless (I’d left a business, a relationship and a home to take care of my mother her last 6 months) and for some reason known only to God and my mother, I’d been written out of the will and evicted from her home.

What was I to do? The roles that had defined me (daughter, mother, wife, secretary, entrepreneur, etc.) for so many years were gone in the space of a breath. My future, as I had planned it, was gone. What now?

I started through the same process I now share with you. I disconnected my Oughta-Pilot and started to regain control of my life. Now my life is one of my own creation, changeable and maleable as I choose. I’m on my way to living the life I dream of and I’d love it if you’d join me!

If you’re in a transition stage, if you’re wondering if you’re pursuing the right career, if there’s any uncertainty in your life at all, I have created a tool that will help you put it all in perspective.

I’m holding a free preview telecall to explain it in detail on March 17, 2009 at 1 PM PST.

On the call, I’ll be not only discussing how my new program that rolls out on April 3 works, but since I don’t believe in wasting anyone’s time, I’ll also be offering some really great giveaways to my callers and giving you an opportunity to work through one of the exercises from the course that provides a lot of value on its own so you can experience a taste of the course.

Do you have a great story about a time you followed your heart instead of what you “oughta” have done? I’d love to read it! I’ll have a great prize for the best one (just not sure what it is yet).

Are you doing what you were born to do or what you have learned to do? It isn’t always easy to discern the difference.

What is an Oughta-Pilot(tm)?

The precise definition of Oughta-Pilot(tm) is:

Letting an “ought to” or a “should”  be the primary motivation for how you live your life, the choices and decisions you make and the attitudes and feelings that arise therefrom.

Oughta-Pilots can be yours or someone else’s, but they’re stringy and sticky and really hard to get rid of – sort of like the cockroaches in my first apartment.

shame smallI spent the first 47 years of my life doing everything others said or thought I “oughta” do. I made myself miserable trying to do and be what my parents, teachers, spouses and so-called friends said I “should”.  Then, one day, I woke up and claimed my own BirthRight. Now I live a conscious, created life and take responsibility for my actions.

I’ve started teaching others how to disconnect their OP’s as well. There is a specific process I have developed and I’m tickled to say, have folded into a 6-week e-course as well as an all day workshop. The e-course will allow you to work through the process in privacy, but if you want to really turbocharge the experience and get going on a new course, the workshop is the way to go.

We’re all trying to do a little better for ourselves, right? Working for things like…

  • More Money
  • A Better Career
  • A More Loving Relationship
  • A Healthy Weight and Body Image
  • And a “Better Lifestyle” Overall

I’ve got something which can help you do all of this and more. And over a 6-week period, I want to personally share these things with you. If you…

  • need help to define exactly what you want
  • need to have your questions answered
  • need to learn practices necessary to live a created life
  • need to learn specifically how to manifest the health, money, and relationships you yearn for

…then I can help you. :)

My exclusive, 6-week “Disconnect Your Oughta-PilotTM” course is designed to bring you a new understanding of who you are, what you want and where to go next.

The 6-week course includes teleseminars, interactive networking calls, guest speakers, and more. You’ll also be able to discuss everything and get your questions answered in an online forum.

Watch this space to find out when it’s ready to launch.  I’m looking for beta testers now.  If you’re interested in participating, please send me an email at contact (at) oughtapilotgone (dot) com.

Till next time,
